7 weeks old!

Today, Zack turned 7 weeks. I'm adding a cute pic of him from Sunday night, right after his bath. He likes bathtime, in so much as he doesn't cry during it. Well, what can you expect from a 7 week old?

He is on a pretty good schedule now. I get to sleep a full 5 hours in a row each night and am happy about it. Funny, considering I used to sleep in as late as possible and wasn't really happy unless I had 9 hours. Granted I get a nap after his 5am feeding for now. When I return to work on Monday, that will go away. Sigh.

So, yes, it's time for me to go back to the adult world. I am torn - looking forward to getting back to my life, but then again, he's my new life and I hate to think about leaving him for 9-10 hours every day. But, he'll be with other kids his age and I think in the end, it will be good for him....and for me.

That's all for now!

1 Month Old

Hi All! Zack is 1 month old. It was a long, sleepless month, but he is growing so well and has become a great part of our family. He has finally smiled at Mommy (several times!) which has become her favorite moments of the day. He watches Family Guy with Daddy (apparently, we are not yet monitoring his tv) and has met all of his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Zack is now 10+ lbs...probably more like 10.5 at this point. He's 22 inches long...and quickly outgrowing his newborn clothes.

We're being a little slack on the pictures, but we'll get some new ones up soon. Thanks to all who have sent welcome gifts, flowers and cards. We're very appreciative, just having a hard time getting thank you cards out.

Keep checking in and we'll have new updates soon!

Meeting the Cousins

Kim's sister brought by her two little boys, Alex & Ryan to meet their new cousin. Would have been a lot more fun if Zack hadn't been in a bit of a snit. Both Alex and Ryan were covering their ears at one point... the little guy has some lungs!!

The Proud Parents... and a few of the cute kid :-)

The Proud Daddy

So I finally handed the camera off to my mom... and pulled the baby away from his momma so I could get into a few pictures as well. He's a hard guy to let go of.

The Proud Grandparents

Clay's Mom and Dad (Chuck & Julie Smithers) with their first grandchild. Now you can see where some of Zack's good looks come from :-)

And now the vital stats!

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes yesterday and today. Zack did well last night and had his first checkups this morning. He's passed everything with flying colors and no one can believe how much blonde hair he has.

Now the numbers:
Born: May 13, 2008 2:33pm
Length: 20 inches
Weight: 8 pounds, 11 ounces

He's resting peacefully in mommy's arms right now and is getting ready for breakfast. Mom is doing very well thanks to the wonderful folks who make Percoset. She got a bit of rest last night and is loving every minute of this kid. No offense to the kid, he's cute, but Dad wants to sleep ;-)

Last Night

... okay, maybe not ALL night. But the kid does have some lungs!

Annoucing...

... the birth of Zachary Charles Smithers. Born May 13, 2008 at 2:33 pm!

It's Go Time

Time to start pushing! 10cm!

The elusive name to be posted soon... and maybe a picture or two also.

Lunchtime

Well... lunchtime for me at least. Kim is enjoying (?) the requisite Ice Chip du Jour. No kid yet - they've cranked up the drugs pretty good at this point - aiming for dinner time now. Have been able to get some rest in between visits from our very nice nurse, Carla. More later.

Moving Along

No new pictures (camera has been banned), but things are moving along well. Epidurals are good :-) Doctor is guessing that the little guy should be here by lunchtime (but she also thought he would be here a week ago...)

More soon!

The Big Day

So the little guy has decided to arrive fashionably late into the new world. Kim and I are at the hospital and they have her all hooked up. From everything the nurses are saying, she's ready to deliver - just needs a bit of a kick-start. They have just started Ptocin (which kicks off the process) and they'll break her water a bit later this morning.

Keep checking back here throughout the day for updates!

The Nursery is Complete

Last week, Clay and I finally finished the nursery, much to my relief! It is just about perfect for us and most especially for our little one. It features smiling dinosaurs in many colors. The pictures don't quite do it justice. It feels very cheery, fun, and yet comforting to be in there.

As you can see, we have a whole bookshelf of books from Old McDonald Finger Puppets to classics like Mark Twain. Thank you to all who contributed to the massive collection. Books are very important to Clay and I and we can't wait to share them with our son.

Hope you enjoy the pictures! Next post should come as we get settled in the delivery room.....our hospital has wifi and we plan to keep you all "posted" as we get to meet our son sometime in the next few weeks. He is due May 9th!
